Carissa Yeoman - Principal and Director

Dance has been a part of my life since I was 4 years old. As a child, I spent a lot of time at RAD ballet and Jazz dance classes and travelling around N.S.W to dance competitions. I operated my own dance school while I attended my last 2 years of high school. From there I was accepted into the “Brent St School of Performing Arts” in Sydney. After studying there I danced professionally in Australia and overseas. My professional career involved dancing in anything from music film clips, commercials, movies, cheerleading, fashion parades, variety shows, and back up dancing. I met my Kiwi husband in London and we moved back here to his hometown Taupo where we had our two girls Ayla and Belle. I started teaching at the Dale Boddy Academy of Dance in 2002 and enjoyed being a part of this school and watching it grow over the years. The Dale Boddy Academy of Dance changed hands in 2015 and is now called Dance Central. My passion is Jazz and Contemporary and I particularly love choreography! I have been fortunate enough to choreograph for the Auckland Coca-Cola Christmas in the park for 2017, 2018 and 2019 and also choreographed for the Rotorua Lakeside Concert in 2019. I look forward to seeing dance become a passion for all of our students, and I will thoroughly enjoy helping them achieve their goals here at Dance Central.

Ignet Gloy - RAD (DDTS) AJDA (Junior Certificate)

I was 3 years old when I joined my first ballet class in Witbank, South Africa. I completed Grade 1-6 examinations under the tutelage of Katherine Glazer. In 1989 we moved to Johannesburg where I continued my dance training at Die Kruin (a performing arts school) under the tutelage of Bernice Lloyd and Di Archbell and completed what was then called Elementary (it is now called Intermediate Foundation). At the age of 16 I had to make a choice between dance and all the other extra-curricular activities I was involved with. I gave up dance, but it always stayed part of my life, from performing in school productions to choreographing shows at university and school shows as a first year teacher.

In 1998 I immigrated to New Zealand, again getting involved in choreographing pieces for Stage Challenge performances and craving being back in a dance class. In 2007 I joined Dale Boddy Academy of Dance, doing Grade 7 ballet under the tutelage of Dale Boddy – from there it snowballed in me completing my Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate and Advance Foundation Ballet exams, Contemporary 1 – 5 and Elementary 3 – Intermediate 3 Jazz Examinations (under Carissa Yeoman’s guidance). In 2010 I started a dance programme at Taupo-nui-a-Tia College with only 3 students. This programme has grown to 50 students from Year 9 to Year 13 doing NCEA and Scholarship Dance. I have successfully entered groups in competitions such as DanceNZMade, Taupo Youth Talent Quest and Queen’s Birthday Dance Competitions. I have also received awards for choreography at these competitions.

Disaster struck in 2012 when I tore all the ligaments in my knee (during a social netball game!) and had to undergo knee reconstruction surgery. They say everything happens for a reason and this injury certainly steered me into dance teaching.

In 2014 I completed my AJDA Junior Jazz Teaching Certificate. In 2015 I started on a two year RAD Diploma, and I am now a fully qualified RAD teacher. I also teach NZAMD contemporary, and have the pleasure of taking private lessons and preparing students for dance competitions.
